The Current at 3AM

Still on the Surface.

THE CURRENT AT 3AM album cover

Two weeks ago, I released an album called The Current.

It was about movement.

About what happens when you stop fighting the current long enough to realize that maybe it isn't carrying you away from where you're supposed to be.

Maybe it's carrying you there.

But there was another side of that record I couldn't shake.

What happens when everything gets quiet?

When the conversations stop.

When the notifications stop.

When everyone else is asleep.

When it's 3AM and there's nowhere left to perform, nowhere left to go, and nobody left to convince.

Just you.

And whatever is still moving underneath the surface.

That's where this album begins.

The same water. A different hour.

The Nighttime Reflection

The Current at 3AM isn't a sequel in the traditional sense.

It's the nighttime reflection of The Current.

The first record moves through open water.

This one turns the lights off.

It begins almost motionless.

Insomnia Blue.

Then Empty Rooms.

Glass and Rain.

Slowly, movement returns.

Streetlight Hum.

Bridge Lights.

Black Water.

And then the album reaches the place I think it was always headed.

Not forward.

Down.

Undertow.

Weight of Water.

Held Under.

That's the center of this record.

The part where movement becomes pull.

Where the water stops carrying you and asks whether you're willing to stay there long enough to feel what's underneath it.

And then something changes.

Coming Up for Air.

Silver Hour.

First Light.

Not some enormous cinematic breakthrough.

Not everything suddenly becoming okay.

Just...

light.

Solitude, Not Loneliness

I wanted this record to feel like 3AM.

Not lonely.

There's an important distinction there.

Solitude.

There's a particular kind of clarity that exists when the rest of the world goes quiet.

I've experienced it driving alone at night.

Sitting beside water.

Walking through a city after everyone has gone home.

Lying awake listening to music through headphones when the house is completely still.

Nothing necessarily needs to be solved.

You're just there.

And sometimes you can hear yourself differently because nothing else is competing for your attention.

That's the space I wanted this album to occupy.

Dark, but not depressing.

Interior, but not isolated.

Electronic, but still warm.

Movement without urgency.

Clear-headed solitude.

Wanna See It Before You Hear It?

While finishing this record, I became fascinated by another question:

What does an album look like?

Not its cover.

The actual record.

What would happen if we took its frequencies, dynamics, density, movement and emotional architecture and translated them visually?

That experiment became something much bigger.

I started building a permanent visual archive around the music through ResonanceX Studio.

A Sonic Signature™.

A Resonant DNA™.

A Frequency Landscape™.

An Emotional Topography™.

Not ratings.

Not reviews.

Different ways of looking inside the architecture of a finished record.

I've spent the days leading up to this release showing pieces of The Current at 3AM before anyone could hear it.

Today, that experiment changes direction.

Because now you can hear what you've been looking at.

The Current at 3AM — 12 Tracks

  1. Insomnia Blue

  2. Empty Rooms

  3. Glass and Rain

  4. Streetlight Hum

  5. Bridge Lights

  6. Black Water

  7. Undertow

  8. Weight of Water

  9. Held Under

  10. Coming Up for Air

  11. Silver Hour

  12. First Light

The architecture is simple:

Stillness → Movement → Pull → Release → Open Water

But don't listen to it because that's what I say it does.

Put on headphones.

Start with Track 1.

Don't shuffle it.

And see where it takes you.

One More Thing

When I was 12 years old, I wanted to be a DJ.

I remember being told that wasn't really a job.

That wasn't how you made a living.

So I did a whole lot of other things.

I built companies.

I sold things.

I failed.

I succeeded.

I started over more times than I can count.

But somewhere underneath all of that, apparently this part of me never went anywhere.

It waited.

And now, decades later, I'm making records.

Not because somebody gave me permission.

Not because I've figured out exactly where all of this leads.

Because I fucking love making music.

There's something incredibly freeing about finally allowing yourself to make the thing you would have made before the world taught you to ask whether it was practical.

So yes, today I'm celebrating an album release.

But I'm also celebrating that 12-year-old kid.

Turns out he wasn't wrong.

He just had to wait a while.

Now you can hear it.

And if you do listen all the way through, I'd love to know one thing:

Where did the record take you?
