DUENDE is out today.
This one is personal.
Years ago, I owned a beautiful flamenco guitar.
I had always wanted to learn.
Not casually.
I loved the sound. The attack. The rhythm. The way a flamenco guitar could feel delicate one second and completely alive the next.
So I bought one.
And I started learning.
Then 2020 happened.
Like a lot of people, my world changed fast.
Businesses collapsed. Income disappeared. Everything became about survival.
At one point, I needed money to put food on the table.
So I sold the guitar.
Not because I stopped loving it.
Not because I decided music wasn't for me.
Because my family needed me to make a different decision.
I sold it to a flamenco teacher.
I've always thought there was something strangely beautiful about that.
The guitar left my hands.
But it didn't stop making music.
And apparently, neither did I.
Years later, I started creating music again.
Different tools.
Different process.
Different version of me.
And eventually I found my way back to flamenco.
Not by trying to recreate what I had lost.
By asking a different question:
What would it sound like to finally hear your own voice clearly?
That became DUENDE.
Eight tracks.
Eight different expressions of flamenco.
One idea underneath all of them.
What does "duende" mean?
Literally, the word can mean spirit, soul, or an unseen presence.
But in art and flamenco, it means something harder to explain.
It is the thing underneath technique.
The thing that makes a performance feel alive.
The thing you cannot fake.
You can be technically perfect and still have no duende.
And you can hit one imperfect note that somehow says everything.
For me, duende is the inner fire that makes something deeply, unmistakably alive.
That became the filter for this entire record.
I did not want technical guitar exercises.
I did not want "Spanish-sounding" music.
I did not want flamenco clichés.
I wanted something warm.
Human.
Alive.
Something that breathed.
The tracklist tells the story
DESPIERTO — Awake
The first light.
That moment when something inside you begins to come back online.
NO ME CALLO — I Won't Stay Silent
The declaration.
You heard the voice.
Now you stop burying it.
ALEGRÍA — Joy
Not performance.
Not forced positivity.
Real joy.
The kind that shows up when you stop fighting yourself.
MI SANGRE — My Blood
The inward turn.
What is actually yours?
What belongs to you beneath the noise, expectations, and identities you picked up along the way?
MÁS VIVO — More Alive
The crest.
Full fire.
Not louder for the sake of being louder.
Just fully awake.
ASÍ SOY — This Is Who I Am
This one may be the simplest idea on the record.
No explanation.
No apology.
No permission required.
This is who I am.
DE PIE — Standing
Not aggressive.
Not defiant for show.
Just standing fully in yourself.
Upright.
Clear.
LO OIGO — I Hear It
The final track.
The fire has quieted.
Almost everything has fallen away.
And finally...
You hear it.
Your own voice.
Clearly.
And maybe that's the real story
When I sold that guitar during COVID, I thought I was letting go of something.
And I was.
But I was also doing what that season required.
There are times in life when you preserve the dream.
And there are times when you preserve the people you love.
Sometimes you have to sell the guitar.
Sometimes you have to shelve the idea.
Sometimes you have to put the creative part of yourself away for a while and handle what is directly in front of you.
But that does not mean it is gone.
That is the part I understand differently now.
You can lose the instrument without losing the music.
You can lose the business without losing the builder.
You can lose the plan without losing the possibility.
You can go through a season where your voice gets buried under survival...
and still find it again.
Maybe quieter at first.
Maybe different.
Maybe through a completely different medium than you expected.
But still yours.
DUENDE
This album is not about flamenco to me.
Flamenco is the language.
The album is about returning to yourself.
Hearing what has been there the whole time.
Trusting it.
And allowing it to become louder than everything that told you to ignore it.
The guitar left my hands.
The music didn't.
DUENDE is out now.
Eight tracks.
One fire.
